Spring always brings a desire of changing our daily habits and going back to a healthy lifestyle; after months of hibernation, our body needs sunshine, fresh air and a boost of vitamins. And let’s not forget exercise! Except for a few sports addicts, most of us have been snuggling in a blanket on the couch, eating comfort food and watching Netflix every night.
Well, now’s the time to get moving! Here are a few fitness tips for a happier, healthier you!
Set realistic goals
Will you really, really attend hot yoga classes 4 times a week? Maybe for first month, but, unless you really fall in love with your new physical activity, chances are you’ll get discouraged and give up. If you’re the type of person who is motivated by a training plan, start small and integrate one or two gym, barre or spinning sessions a week in your schedule. If you tend to get stressed when you plan in advance, just go with the flow! Find a fitness centre that offers walk-in classes, and get a monthly unlimited subscription instead of a number of classes or sessions; that way, you can go whenever you feel like it instead of pushing yourself to go when you’d rather be home that night.
Some people prefer to work out alone; however, committing to a gym subscription, yoga classes or weekly runs with your best friend or significant other can help give you an extra dose of motivation. That way, you’ll always have someone to push you on lazy days, and when your partner feels too lazy, you’ll become the cheerleader and motivate them to go even if they don’t feel like it. Plus, if you’re really not into sports, working out with someone can help you focus on something else by chatting and catching up while jogging or running on the treadmill!
Do it at home
It is possible that taking classes or subscribing to the gym is unrealistic for you, whether it is because you work crazy hours, you have young kids at home, or you simply hate leaving the house. Then, why not work out at home? Sure, you will need at extra dose of motivation, but it’s totally doable. Don’t know where to start? We’re huge fans of Rebecca Louise’s fitness videos and oneOeight’s online yoga classes, featuring our friend Stephanie Birch.
