For most of us girls, summer is synonymous with long, wavy beach hair (thanks to Pinterest!). In real life, the sun, heat and wind may be hard on our hair, which is why it’s important to have the right tools and good styling habits to keep it healthy. Here are a few tips to take care of your hair this summer.
Keep it cool
No blow-dryer, no flat iron – the sun is enough heat for your hair! Apply a bit of oil or cream conditioner on your ends and make loose braids to get flowy waves instead. If you do use styling tools, always use a good heat protection spray at first.

Oils, oils, oils!
Invest in a good argan oil or Moroccan oil, or even better, keep your coconut oil in the bathroom — the more natural, the better. Apply a small quantity of oil on 2/3 of your hair (stay away from the roots, or they will become greasy!) and comb through with your fingers for a healthy shine!
In the wellness and beauty world, hydration is key. You shouldn’t wash your hair too often to keep the natural oils of your scalp working their magic (dry shampoo is perfect to go an extra day or two without washing it). Replace your usual conditioner with a good hair mask (we love Macadamia’s Deep Repair Masque); if you have time, leave it on for the night to really nourish your hair, especially after a day under the sun.
Just like your skin, your hair needs a break from the sun from time to time. Bring a hat or a satin scarf to the beach to cover your hair (and get that Instagram-ready vacationer style).
Every girl wants that « I just got back from the beach » look; tousled waves do make you feel like Gisele Bündchen, don’t they?! If you can’t afford a vacation by the sea, get the look at home by mixing 2 cups of hot water, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of coconut oil and 1 teaspoon of hair gel: voilà, you’ve got your very own salt spray for your best summer hair ever! However, make sure to treat your hair after using salt spray since the salt could make it dryer.
Since your hair will already be fragilized from the sun, you should keep your hair loose as much as possible. Invest in quality hair ties and alternate between relaxed waves, ponytails and buns; always tying your hair at the same place might cause breakage. Summer is the perfect season to fall back in love with your natural hair texture!
